Helen has danced from the age of three, training in Banstead and at Laine Theatre Arts in Epsom – and is now a qualified Licentiate of the ISTD in both Modern and Tap dance. During my sixth form at school, I choreographed cheerleading routines and other ‘freestyle’ dances for large charity events which were held at the school. This is when I decided that I really wanted to be a dance teacher and a choreographer. Latterly I have worked at several dance schools around the Surrey area, including one of Italia Conti’s weekend schools. Now, I currently teach Modern, jazz and tap from the ISTD syllabus at Suki Tuner’s School ‘Centre stage Dance and Drama’, ‘C&C Dance School’ in Nutfield and at ‘Hawthorns’ school in Bletchingly. I also work as a Choreographer and freelance dance teacher at Dunottar school in Reigate. As well as teaching from the ISTD syllabus, I like to depart from set work and teach ‘street jazz’. This gives me the chance to choreograph and teach new and exciting routines which the youngsters really enjoy. I also like the challenge this offers me! I have worked with the elderly at a nursing home, as their activity coordinator. As part of my Certificate in Dance for the ISTD dance syllabus, I also learnt about fitness for the over 60’s, which is an integral part of the course, which was extremely useful for my work at the nursing home. I am continuing these skills as a freelance dance teacher/choreographer to work with individuals who have mobilisation issues or a physical disability.
